Car wrecks into Mineral Palace Park

Pueblo Police hypothesize while examining the area for clues.
Sunday July 16, 2017 approximately 8:00 am, a red Honda was headed Southbound on I25 when it wrecked through the fence in to Pueblo's Mineral Palace Park. Responders and police had to drive on to the parks grass in order to close off the scene. The car contained 3 individuals and a public official thought the car to have "at least been going  80 mph when they over corrected and came right through the fence."

Here we see the tree that was hit with the passenger side of the car, showing a near miss of a head on collision.

After crashing through the 8 ft tall chain link fence, the car hit a tree  with the passenger side front fender deploying airbags spinning the car into a 360 degree spin, ending with a crash into another tree about 20 feet away. A young man and woman were both conscious when transported by ambulance to Parkview Hospital with unknown injuries. The third male received on site care for minor cuts and lacerations and was resistant to be transported by ambulance. His other injuries are also unknown.

Responders put a female individual in a neck brace while treating a male for cuts.

Evidence of where the car entered to park, knocking down the fence.
This could have been a more severe situation with the high speed entailed. Mineral Palace Park brings in thousands of park goers a year and this particular spot, just off a stone bridge that leads you over a duck pond, is highly popular. It would not be unusual for this area to be filled with families, children at play, couples taking romantic walks or people walking their dogs. With the buzzing interstate running parallel to east end of the park, safety might be an issue. This is not the first time that a car has crashed through the n fact, in the same vicinity. In May of 2009, a drunk driver veered through the chain link fence, crashing near the duck pond, just as this car did. Currently there is no talk of installing a barrier or wall for preventative measures. Patrons should try their best to remain aware of their surroundings while attending this area of the park .
